Open House provides an opportunity for a new audience to experience full-scale productions. Facilitators offer insights into opera storylines, musical themes, and production details. Attendees will meet the creative teams, cast, orchestra members, and backstage technicians to understand the rehearsal process and technical aspects. It's a chance for many to visit a professional theatre for the first time, with the hope that exposure to opera singers, orchestral music, and staged productions will inspire a desire for more. In August 2024, the 'opera in a week' experiences return, gathering around 80 young participants at The Grange to create a contemporary opera in just five days. Themes revolve around social issues like the impact of social media on mental health or environmental challenges. Guided by professionals, participants will collaboratively develop the story, music, lyrics, costumes, props, and movement. The programme prioritises the process over the final product, providing an immersive experience for creative exploration in music, drama, dance, and design, encouraging participants to challenge themselves and enhance collaboration and communication skills. The culmination is a performance for friends and family on The Grange Festival stage.
